THE ASK
With the increasing importance of video evidence in court, it’s critical our users have a simple and secure way to capture the truth and manage the evidence, ensuring the chain of custody and its reliability in court. The Si200 Police Body-worn Video Camera together with CommandCentral Vault is part of Motorola Solutions complete Digital Evidence Management solution for capturing, storing, analyzing and sharing critical video evidence.
This device would fit the demographic of users who wish to maintain a portfolio of devices from Motorola Solutions without requiring an overwhelming equipment budget. In short, this camera met the need of an inexpensive body camera that would sync to all existing MSI software.
RESEARCH
User Specific research included interviews to identify the dream product directly from our users. This was regarding both the physical device and the partnered mobile application.
Research & Design Workshops would allow the many stakeholders and myself to collaborate and fit this device into our evidence management system. This meant our product would seamlessly interact with other Motorola devices and platforms through cloud computing.
Why this is important - This leads to optimized evidence capture. I designated certain triggers such as a gun being drawn to activate all local cameras to begin recording and stream to our cloud capture system known as vault for safe keeping. It would then distribute to the appropriate authorities.
DESIGN
Along side our stakeholders, I would sift through data to determine user stories and requirements for the mobile application.
Since Motorola doesn’t already have an evidence management application this is a new ask and would require the full design process. This means I began by creating wire flows which would be followed by wire-framing to determine the optimal UX before proceeding to apply the MSI existing style guide for high fidelity mock ups.
My designs began with an MVP which would contain only the most necessary items before I would implement innovations that would enhance the overall user experience.
WIRE FLOWS
Initial wire flows were created to map out each feature and gain approval from all stakeholders.
MVP RELEASE
Getting the most vital features completed for release 1
ENHANCEMENT RELEASE
A few of these enhancements include:
Accessibility UX - Enhanced for colorblind
Dark/Light Mode for day and night shifts
Critical alerts to gain higher visibility
VALIDATION
User feedback would be captured throughout the design process as flows were completed. My research team and myself were consistently traveling for user studies.
This image shows us validating the entire camera system off the high way to test noice cancellation and accessibility.
DEVELOP
Following the MVP I passed off documentation to the team of developers I was cooperating with in Israel to get this project live. I maintained development support while producing MVP2. I traveled to Israel for PI planning to keep a well oiled machine.
DEVELOPMENT WIRE FLOW
To aid the development team, wire flows provide a map of each features capabilities.
DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT
Maintained a relationship through each release to confirm that the UX met my designed standard.
